It’s said that it takes a village to raise a child and Gary Stevanus believes that the Baldwin City community takes that to heart.
“The school district has tremendous support,” he said. “The staff and community view the students as ‘our kids’ and we work very hard to help them succeed.”
A native of Ottawa, Kansas, Gary earned an associate’s degree in sports medicine from Highland Community College, followed by a bachelor’s in sports science and a master’s in biomechanics and sports administration from the University of Kansas. He joined OrthoKansas in 1997, working as the athletic trainer at Baldwin High School since that time. Gary also serves as the district’s activities and athletic director.
“Students that participate in athletics learn so many things that the classroom doesn’t always teach them — teamwork, work ethic, adversity and perseverance. Being able to watch them grow during their high school career is truly amazing.”
