Volunteer Opportunities

Below are the areas where volunteers help at LMH Health, with general descriptions and shifts.

Specific shift openings change routinely throughout the year. We will work with you to find a placement that fits department needs and your schedule once volunteer orientation is complete.

Information Desk, Main Campus

Is providing comfort and support to people a passion for you? Do you love to learn new things and want to keep your multi-tasking skills fine-tuned? We have Information Desk opportunities for customer service-oriented people. Volunteers must be able and willing to use a computer and multi-line telephone.

Monday through Friday: 8:00 am to 12:00 pm, 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm, 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm

Saturdays: 8:00 am - 11:30 am, 11:30 am - 3:00 pm

Sundays: 12:00pm - 3:00pm

Mario’s Closet

Mario’s Closet is a retail shop located within LMH Health. We provide personalized aesthetic services that can be difficult to find elsewhere in the community. Volunteers will lend a compassionate ear and assist customers with retail purchases, assist customers by setting up times for wig fittings or prosthetic fittings. Volunteers must be comfortable with talking with people who are undergoing cancer treatment. Volunteers must also be comfortable learning computer processes.

Monday through Friday: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, 12:00 - 2:00 pm

LMH Health Gift Shop

Volunteers are at the heart of our Gift Shop! We invite you to come and join in on the fun, meet new people and assist customers. Volunteers operate the cash register, check in and display merchandise. This is a busy area that requires volunteers to be on their feet and moving around. Comfort with computers is helpful.

Monday through Friday: 10:00 am - 1:00 pm, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Surgery Waiting Area, Main Campus

Volunteers in the Surgery Waiting room act as the liaison between the Surgery Department personnel and the waiting family members. Volunteers assist families by providing timely information and updates. Volunteers must be comfortable multi-tasking. Excellent communication skills and the ability to graciously handle multiple requests at one time is a must.

Monday through Friday: 8:00 am - 12:00 pm, 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

LMH Health West Campus Wayfinder

These volunteers walk patients or transport patients by wheelchair when coming into the facility. They also make deliveries throughout the building and run errands. This is an active area that requires volunteers to be in good physical condition and have the ability to quickly learn their way around the building. Excellent customer service skills also a must. Training on wheelchairs, duties, and locations will be provided.

Monday through Friday: 8:00 am - 11:00 am, 11:00 am - 2:00 pm, 2:00 pm- 5:00 pm

OrthoKansas, LMH Health West Campus

Volunteers will assist patients walking or in wheelchairs to navigate the clinic, moving to and from the waiting room to various rooms within the clinic. Scanning and faxing may be done as time allows and if needed.

Monday through Friday: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Rock Chalk Park Exercise Classes

Volunteers assist the Therapy Services staff leading exercise programs for community members, such as the Parkinson's Exercise and RunStrong programs.

Weekdays: volunteer need varies with program schedule

Therapy Services at 6th and Maine Street

Volunteers assist the Therapy Services staff in the outpatient gym, stocking supplies, wiping off equipment, visiting with patients, and transporting patients via wheelchair as needed.

Monday through Thursday: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

Nurse Volunteer

LMH Health has opportunity for registered nurses to serve their community. Nurse Volunteers assist with community-wide wellness clinics, including vaccination injections and vital signs. Must have an active license from the Kansas State Board of Nursing. Needs and scheduling vary based on community wellness events.

Clinical Department Placements

The positions listed below require an additional 12 hours of training with our Wayfinder and Transport teams, as well as a skills checklist to ensure competency. Placement is then made based on departmental needs and an individual volunteer's availability at that time.

Arkansas Street Entrance Wayfinder

These volunteers greet patients, provide information, and walk or transport patients by wheelchair when coming into the hospital at the main campus. This is an active area that requires volunteers to be in good physical condition and have the ability to quickly learn their way around the building. Excellent customer service skills also a must.

Monday through Friday: 8:00 am - 12:00 pm, 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Saturdays: 8:00 am - 11:00 am, 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

Sundays: 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

4^th Street Health Plaza Wayfinder

These volunteers greet patients, provide information, and walk or transport patients by wheelchair when coming into the 4th Street Health Plaza building at the main campus. This is an active area that requires volunteers to be in good physical condition and have the ability to quickly learn their way around the building. Excellent customer service skills also a must.

Monday through Friday: 8:00 am - 11:00 am, 11:00 am - 2:00 pm, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Emergency Department

Volunteers stay busy transporting patients by wheelchair when dismissed. Volunteers will also assist staff by providing refreshments to patients as directed by nursing staff, remaking beds and restocking supplies in patient rooms, and escorting family members from the waiting room.

Sunday through Saturday: 9:00am - 12:00 pm, 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm, 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Endoscopy Clinic, Main Campus

Volunteers stay busy transporting patients by wheelchair when dismissed. Volunteers will also assist staff by providing refreshments to patients as directed by nursing staff, remaking beds and restocking supplies in patient rooms, and escorting family members from the waiting room to the recovery bays.

Monday through Friday: 8:00 am - 11:00 am, 11:00 am - 2:00 pm, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Neurology

Volunteers sit with patients undergoing EEG testing, keeping the patient company and ensuring the patient sits as still as possible during testing. Once the patient leaves, the volunteer cleans and restocks supplies to prepare the room for the next exams. Volunteers also assist with other needs of the clinic, which may include clerical projects as needed.

Oncology

Oncology Volunteers “Pamper the Patient and Support the staff”. Volunteers in this area provide comfort to patients by providing a warm blanket, a drink or snack. They support the staff by preparing rooms between patient visits. Assisting with supplies and running errands and then volunteers also will assist persons leaving the clinic in helping them to their vehicles.

Pain Management Clinic

Volunteers assist patients being discharged by wheelchair out to their vehicle. Volunteers will also assist staff by remaking beds, restocking supplies, wiping off equipment, and running errands as needed.

Tuesday through Thursday: 8:00 am - 12:00 pm, 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Pharmacy, Main Campus

Volunteers assist the Inpatient Pharmacy and Health Systems Pharmacy by stocking, organizing, and labeling supplies. Great experience for pre-pharmacy students but all help is welcome!

Monday through Friday: 8:00 am - 11:00 am

Recovery Room, Main Campus

Volunteers assist patients being discharged by wheelchair out to their vehicle. Volunteers will also assist staff by remaking beds, restocking supplies, wiping off equipment, and running errands as needed.

Monday through Friday: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm, 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Treatment and Procedure Center

Volunteers assist patients being discharged by wheelchair out to their vehicle. Volunteers will also assist staff by remaking beds, restocking supplies, wiping off equipment, and running errands as needed.

Saturday and Sunday: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
