Though she thought veterinary medicine was her future career, Dr. Ericksen knew that she was called to work in healthcare following an auto accident that claimed the life of her sister.
“I really wanted to be there for people in their worst moments,” she said. “I feel like family medicine chose me. I like the variety and I genuinely care about people and want to be there for them when they’re struggling.”
Dr. Ericksen wants her patients to know that she is there for them and is available when they need care. It’s important that patients understand their healthcare and can leave their appointment with a clear understanding about their health.
“I want to empower my patients. I know the medicine, I’ve learned the guidelines – that’s my job. It’s also my job to teach my patients that information and how they can use it,” she said. “I want to be that trusted source that they can come to. There’s so much information out there to process, so I want to be their healthcare guide.”
Dr. Ericksen earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and her medical degree from A.T. Still University – Kirksville College of Medicine. She completed a family medicine residency at the University of Missouri – Columbia. Dr. Ericksen is a captain in the Army National Guard, serving as an Army Medical Corps Officer and a Combat Flight Medic.
