Cancer Center renovations to affect parking beginning June 10
LMH Health patients and visitors will notice some big changes on the hospital’s Main Campus beginning Monday, June 10.
Expansion and renovation of the LMH Health Cancer Center begins next week. The first phase of construction will be felt immediately in parking for patients and visitors. That phase includes resurfacing and regrading part of the parking lot, which is anticipated to take approximately four weeks.
“We know patients often have a lot on their minds when coming to the hospital, and our goal is to make this transition as patient-friendly as possible,” said Russ Johnson, LMH Health president and CEO. “Our efforts to minimize the stress caused by the parking changes include communication with current patients, signage, extended valet hours, additional wayfinding staff and more. Parking area construction is scheduled to end in early July, and many of the parking spots in front of the hospital will be available again at that time.”
In the meantime, additional parking for patients and visitors has been designated on the west side of Arkansas Street. Patients and visitors can also use free valet parking and wheelchair transportation, which will be available from 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during this phase of the project.
On Friday, June 7, the Cancer Center and all oncology services will be closed as the team relocates to the third floor of the Main Campus, where patients will be served beginning Monday, June 10. Cancer Center patients will enter the building through the Arkansas Street entrance. Volunteers and staff will be ready to help them find their way to the new location.
LMH Health also houses Precision Cancer Care (PCC), a radiation oncology clinic with a separate entrance to the Main Campus. The clinic’s exterior door will close for three weeks beginning June 10. During this time, PCC patients will need to enter the Arkansas Street entrance. LMH wayfinding staff will guide patients to the clinic and bring them back to the entrance following their appointment.
“Our oncology clinicians care for more than 19,000 patient encounters per year while operating in the same space where we provided care for 2,400 patients in 2001,” said Rebecca Smith, LMH Health vice president of Strategy and Communications and LMH Health Foundation executive director. “The Cancer Center has the physicians, programs and technology to provide healthcare that’s not only exceptional for a community hospital – it’s among the best anywhere. This expansion, which is funded in part by more than $7 million in donor support, will ensure our facilities reflect the extraordinarily high level of care provided here. We are grateful for our community’s support of this initiative, and we look forward to all it will mean for cancer patients across the region.”
