Capitol Federal Foundation® grants $300k for LMH Health Cancer Center project

The Capitol Federal Foundation® is supporting LMH Health’s initiative to expand and update its cancer center with a recent $300,000 grant to the LMH Health Foundation.

LMH Health Foundation previously announced its intent to seek philanthropic support for what is anticipated to be a $9-$11 million project to update the LMH Health Cancer Center’s space and greatly expand its square footage.

“This generous level of support from the Capitol Federal Foundation will provide significant momentum in moving this important project forward,” said Russ Johnson, president and CEO of LMH Health. “We are deeply grateful to them and to all our donors for recognizing the extraordinary work of our oncologists and our entire cancer-care team.”

LMH Health’s Cancer Center is known for progressive, integrated hematology and oncology care. It is home to National Cancer Institute trained physicians, multidisciplinary care teams and strong regional partnerships. Cancer patients at LMH Health have access to a wide range of clinical trials, comprehensive support programs, lifelong survivorship resources, a cancer prevention program and much more.

“We are pleased to be able to support this important enhancement to cancer care in the Lawrence and Douglas County region,” said Tammy Dishman, president of the Capitol Federal Foundation. “Our Foundation trustees, as well as Capitol Federal® employees, recognize the importance of quality health care for all Kansans, and we’re happy to help LMH Health with this critical initiative.”

More than $3.8 million in philanthropic support has been given or pledged to date toward the Cancer Center initiative, according to Rebecca Smith, executive director of the LMH Health Foundation and V.P. of strategic communications for the hospital.

“The generosity of the Capitol Federal Foundation and all our donors is truly remarkable,” Smith said. “Donor support is the real difference-maker for this project, and it’s what will ensure our ability to provide the highest level of cancer care for years to come.”

According to its website, the Capitol Federal Foundation was established in 1999 to serve as "A Community Cornerstone" within the communities in which Capitol Federal operates. The Foundation is committed to improving the quality of life in these communities by investing in the citizens of today and tomorrow.
