LMH Health announces affiliation with First Med PA
After months of discussions, LMH Health is announcing an affiliation with First Med PA, a longtime medical clinic in the Lawrence community. The clinic will move from its current location to a new home on South Iowa and will open to the public on August 1.
The new location on South Iowa allows First Med and LMH Health to provide convenient family practice and walk-in services to residents of Lawrence and Douglas County, as well as people utilizing the South Lawrence Trafficway.
“We chose the location on South Iowa because there is a gap in primary care in that area,” said Sheryle D’Amico, vice president of the LMH Health physician division. “That area continues to grow and it is important for LMH Health to ensure local care for that part of the community.”
Providers at the clinic employed by LMH Health will include Drs. Ronald Burt and David Dunlap and advance practice providers.
“Throughout my 16 years at First Med, I have had the privilege of working closely with LMH Health to keep my own patients healthy,” Dr. Dunlap said. “I have always considered the LMH Health family to be a part of my own, as they have provided top-notch care for my family for four generations. Because of this relationship, our transition to LMH Health feels very natural.”
D’Amico said the addition of the clinic is a great fit with LMH Health’s existing primary care base.
“We’ve been interested in First Med’s model of expanded services, which includes providing walk-in appointments seven days per week,” she said. “LMH Health has been anticipating this type of service to better accommodate the needs of our patients.”
Dr. Burt is excited by the new opportunities the transition to LMH Health presents for the clinic.
“We have long considered partnering with LMH Health and are very excited to bring this to reality,” said Dr. Burt. “The expertise and experience of the primary care management team, particularly with regard to governmental and insurance regulations and requirements, will allow us to focus more on taking good care of our patients, which is the reason we went into medicine in the first place.”
First Med will join LMH Health affiliated family and internal medicine practices in Lawrence, Baldwin City, Eudora, McLouth and Tonganoxie, as well as specialty practices for orthopedics, oncology, obstetrics and gynecology, pain management, neurology, cardiology, vein treatment, pulmonology, general surgery, gastroenterology, spine care, endocrinology, urology and plastic surgery in Lawrence, as well as an affiliated orthopedic clinic in Emporia.
