LMH Summer Spray 5K Community Wellness Grant to provide free sports physicals in Tonganoxie

Family Medicine of Tonganoxie, an affiliate of Lawrence Memorial Hospital, has received a $2,500 LMH Summer Spray 5K Community Wellness Grant to provide free sports physicals on Thursday, August 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. Funded by proceeds from the 2014 LMH Summer Spray 5K Run/Walk Series, the grant is the second of three to be awarded by Lawrence Memorial Hospital Endowment Association in the series host communities of Eudora, Tonganoxie and Baldwin City.

Available on a walk-in basis for Tonganoxie middle and high school athletes, the physicals will be performed by William Weatherford, MD, and Elizabeth Beal, MD, at the family practice at 410 Woodfield Drive. The one-evening event will help keep the community’s athletes active and protected in their chosen physical activities while removing any barrier of cost.

“We are very excited to be able to provide the community with sports physicals free of charge through this LMH Summer Spray 5K Community Wellness Grant,” said Barbara Karr, Director of Family Practices. “This could allow many of the middle school and high school kids to get a physical performed, which is necessary to participate in sports through the schools. We hope the community will take advantage of this event on August 6 from 5 to 7 p.m.”

LMH Summer Spray 5K Community Wellness Grants are awarded to a program or project in each of the series host communities that effectively and resourcefully enhances local health and wellness. LMH Endowment Association will also award grants from the proceeds of the 2015 series, which kicked off June 20 in Eudora, continues July 18 in Tonganoxie and wraps up August 15 in Baldwin City.
