LMH Health Leadership Academy
Are you interested in developing leadership skills that will set you apart from others? Ever wonder what it takes to run a health system or manage a city - and get paid while learning? If so, then the Leadership Academy is for YOU!
The Academy engages high school sophomores, juniors and seniors in experiences that give them a jump start in pursuit of careers including healthcare administration, medicine, allied health and governance. In partnership with the Lawrence Public Schools (USD 497), Eudora Public Schools (USD 491) and the City of Lawrence, the Academy will offer leadership and professional development opportunities. All students, including those from under-represented demographics, are encouraged to apply. The Academy is an in-person program and attendance is required.

FAQs
- What if I don't have regular transportation?
- We work with every student's specific situation and that includes transportation. From carpooling to rides, we don't let lack of transportation be a barrier.
- Do I need to attend every day?
- The Academy is an in-person learning environment and attendance is required. We understand that illness or special circumstances may occur, but if you know you will miss more than a few days, you will lose valuable time and experience during the Academy. If you have further questions, please reach out to LMHHealthAcademy@LMH.org.
- What if I don't have professional clothing to wear?
- We take all students who are selected on a paid shopping trip before the Academy starts for a new, professional wardrobe!
- Do I need to prepare anything before I start if I'm selected?
- No, you do not need to prepare anything or bring anything with you except for any personal belongings (phone, purse, backpack, etc.) We provide a computer and all office supplies.
- Is the Academy a shadowing program? Will I be able to learn basic health care?
- While shadowing is a definite possibility within the Academy, the program is designed with an emphasis on leadership within the executive setting and not as an exclusive shadowing opportunity. Students selected may spend time with nurses, providers or other clinical staff during their time in the Academy but the bulk of the program will be geared toward developing leadership skills and learning from hospital executives.
