On the Run: T-minus two weeks
“If it was easy, everyone would do it.”
With two weeks to go until my marathon, I keep repeating this phrase over and over again. Trust me – training is not easy.
I’ve amassed various injuries, aches and pains over the past few months. I’ve had blisters on my feet and lost part of a toenail. My shins and back ache and, not to be left out, my knee is ready to join the party. I’ve always had respect for marathoners but it’s so much more now. This is no joke.
I think – no, I know that I’d be worse off without the feedback I received from the RunStrong team after my running analysis a few months ago. The exercises that Nami and Zach recommended for me have made me stronger and I feel more confident in my running. (Still not faster – let’s not get ahead of ourselves now.)
The encouragement and support that I get not only from the RunStrong team but also the running community is what keeps me going. Members of the Slow Runners Community on Facebook (there are over 44,000 of us, in case you’re wondering) and TikTokers like @mrs.space.cadet continue to inspire me every day. They remind me that normal people can accomplish things they never thought possible – like running a marathon.
Until race day, I’ll continue to get those miles in and continue to get stronger. And on the day of reckoning, also known as October 8, I’ll just keep chanting over and over to remind myself that if it was easy, everyone would do it.
