Certified Nurse Midwives at LMH Health

Many women prefer OB-GYN care from a certified nurse midwife. At Lawrence OB-GYN Specialists, we provide that too.

A common misconception about midwives is that they only provide care for pregnant women. While pregnancy and childbirth are certainly important parts of midwifery, certified nurse midwives also provide comprehensive gynecological care for women of all ages. From well woman exams to family planning, obstetrics and even post-menopausal care, the certified nurse midwives of Lawrence OB-GYN Specialists are here to care for women for life. 

Gynecology

Our certified nurse midwives provide gynecological care services to women at every age, from adolescence throughout adulthood. They perform pelvic exams, pap tests and other GYN services. They also prescribe medications and birth control, and order lab tests as needed. Certified nurse midwives – much like our OB-GYN physicians – are also an excellent resource for women’s health education and counseling.

Obstetrics

Our certified nurse midwives deliver babies exclusively in the Family Birthing Center at LMH Health. If complications arise that require a Cesarean birth (C-section), an OB-GYN physician from our practice will perform the procedure, with the certified nurse midwife serving as a “first assist” to the physician.

While our physicians are on call 24 hours a day for women giving birth at the Family Birthing Center at LMH Health, certified nurse midwives receive physician assistance only if unexpected complications occur. Throughout the care plan, however, our certified nurse midwives and physicians work collaboratively to oversee your health and well-being. Our certified nurse midwives share our OB-GYN physicians’ commitment to evidence-based OB-GYN care. They also share our practice-wide philosophy that women’s health care is most effective when it involves consultation, communication and collaboration across the care team.
