Gynecology (GYN) is the field of medicine that focuses on the health of women and adolescent girls, especially those areas that affect the female reproductive system. At Lawrence OB-GYN Specialists, our board-certified OB-GYN physicians, certified nurse midwives and certified women’s health care nurse practitioners offer high-quality care with compassion. Gynecology for All Ages
Adolescent Gynecology Care
We typically recommend a first OB-GYN visit around age 13-15. A pelvic exam may or may not be included, depending on individual circumstances. We recognize that a teenager's first visit is the beginning of a life-long relationship with OB-GYN care, so we strive to make these first encounters very positive for our young patients.
Contraception (Birth Control)
You have many choices for birth control, and each type has its own pros and cons to consider. We encourage you to ask questions and discuss your options with your gynecology provider at Lawrence OB-GYN Specialists, so we can help determine that best birth control option for you.
Fertility Testing
Getting pregnant is not always easy. If you haven’t been able to conceive, ask your OB-GYN provider for more information and guidance. This may include basic infertility testing to see if there is condition that can be treated to improve your chances and ability of getting pregnant.
Menopausal & Post-Menopausal Care
For women entering menopause, we provide a range of prescription and non-prescription treatment options to relieve symptoms and help with other common issues. One option is hormone replacement therapy (HRT), which has been shown to reduce symptoms and alleviate challenges for some women. There are other options for hormone replacement, such as bioidentical hormones. There are certain risks associated with HRT, however, so it's important to ask your OB-GYN provider if HRT is right for you.
While most symptoms and problems subside after menopause, some women continue to face certain effects and risks from reduced estrogen levels. These can include emotional changes, decreased bone density and more. Our OB-GYN care team is here to help guide you through the challenges this stage of your life can bring.

Endometriosis
Endometriosis is a problem many women have during their childbearing years. It means that a type of tissue that lines your uterus is also growing outside your uterus. This does not always cause symptoms, and it usually isn't dangerous. But it can cause pain and other problems, such as abnormal bleeding and fertility issues. Our expertise includes diagnosing endometriosis and a variety of treatment options to help you return to the life you love without endometriosis pain getting in the way.
Abnormal Uterine Bleeding
For women who have problems related to menstrual cycles, we offer treatment options ranging from hormone therapy to surgery.
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a common women’s health issue with unpleasant symptoms that can lead to more serious conditions if left untreated. Our providers offer a range of options to help women with PCOS.
Urinary Incontinence
We offer a range of treatment options for women experiencing incontinence (bladder control problems). If surgery is needed, your skilled OB-GYN physician may perform the procedure in the state-of-the-art surgical suites at LMH Health.
Pelvic Pain
Chronic pelvic pain in women can be caused by a variety of conditions. If you are experiencing mild to severe pelvic pain lasting more than six months, there are many options to find the source and alleviate your pain.
Irregular Periods
Not all women have regular periods, and not all irregularities are cause for concern. At Lawrence OB-GYN Specialists, we can help determine the cause of your menstrual irregularities and provide appropriate treatment options if needed.
Sexually Transmitted Infections
A sexually transmitted infection (STI), also known as a sexually transmitted disease or STD, can have serious effects on a woman's health and fertility. Because they are contagious and often have no noticeable symptoms, early detection and prompt treatment is very important. We offer testing for common STIs as part of the routine pelvic exam and as needed anytime, along with expert care and treatment.
GYN Procedures & Surgeries
From preventive screenings to diagnosis and treatment, our OB-GYN experts perform a wide range of gynecological procedures, including minimally invasive and robotically-assisted surgery:
Pap test
During a pap test, also known as a pap smear, loose cells are scraped gently from the opening of the cervix. The cells are then tested for cervical or vaginal cancer, abnormal hormone activity and certain infections or changes that may require treatment. Any female adult or teenager who is sexually active should have a pap smear once a year, including some women who have had hysterectomies.
Pelvic Ultrasound
Similar to a fetal ultrasound, we use the same ultrasound technology to evaluate your pelvic organs.
Colposcopies
Abnormal pap smears are fairly common. If this occurs, we will use a colposcope (a high powered microscope) to closely examine your cervix and find the source of your abnormal pap.
In-Office Surgery
We have the technology and expertise to perform biopsies in our office for a wide range of gynecologic conditions.
Endometrial Ablation or Endometriosis Resection
Endometrial ablation uses heat to remove the inner lining of the uterus. Endometriosis resection involves removing the visible tissue that is growing outside the uterus while leaving the uterus intact (unlike a hysterectomy, which involves removal of the uterus). Endometriosis resection is a common procedure for women who struggle with endometriosis symptoms but want to be able to get pregnant in the future.
Cryotherapy and LEEP Procedures (Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure)
If a pap smear shows abnormal cell growth, it is sometimes necessary to remove the affected tissue for an accurate microscopic analysis. At Lawrence OB-GYN Specialists, we perform minimally invasive cryotherapy and LEEP procedures when pap smears indicate potential problems. Cryotherapy may be used to remove genital warts as well.
Sterilization-Tubal Ligation
Known conversationally as "getting your tubes tied," we perform safe tubal ligations for women who no longer want the ability to get pregnant, whether it's for personal or medical reasons.
Minimally Invasive Surgeries
Our board-certified OB-GYN physicians provide laparoscopic and robotically assisted GYN surgeries to find and treat a variety of women’s health issues.
Hysterectomies
Sometimes your condition may require the removal of your uterus (a procedure known as a hysterectomy). We perform vaginal and abdominal hysterectomies in the surgical suites at LMH Health using minimally invasive laparoscopic or robotically assisted procedures.
Sacrocolpopexy for Urinary Incontinence
Our OB-GYN physicians treat problems with urinary incontinence in a variety of ways, including minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotically assisted sacrocolpopexy if you are dealing with pelvic organ prolapse (also known as pelvic organ relaxation).
