Early Detection: Your Most Powerful Defense
One in eight women will develop the disease at some point in her life, but when breast cancer is detected early enough, the five-year survival rate is nearly 100 percent. Family history may put some women at higher risk, but 85 percent of breast cancers occur in women with no family history of the disease. Comprehensive Breast Cancer Care
In addition to breast cancer screening, our physicians and staff are dedicated to excellence in breast cancer care coordination. Our onsite breast surgeon provides same-day diagnostic results whenever possible, and when breast cancer is detected, our physicians combine advanced breast-imaging technology, 3D mammography, ultrasound and biopsy to create customized treatment plans for highly personalized care. Lifetime Breast Cancer Risk Assessment
When you schedule your next mammogram, you have another tool to prevent breast cancer – a lifetime breast cancer risk assessment. The LMH Health Women’s Center works in hand in hand with LMH Health Imaging and the LMH Health Cancer Center to deliver this enhanced program to identify lifetime breast cancer risk.
- Prior to your mammogram, you’ll work one-on-one with mammography technologist to complete a risk assessment form.
- Your mammogram images will be reviewed by one of our board-certified radiologists.
- If your assessment shows a 20% or greater lifetime risk for developing breast cancer, you’ll receive a referral to the Lawrence Breast Specialists for an evaluation and consultation. You may be referred to the LMH Health Cancer Center for additional care, which may include breast exams twice per year, enhanced breast imaging and genetic testing.
Can’t Afford a Mammogram? Help Is Available.
At Lawrence Breast Specialists, LMH Health Women’s Center and LMH Health Cancer Center, our goal is to ensure that every woman age 40 and up has affordable access to regular screening mammograms and diagnostic mammograms when necessary. This includes providing financial assistance options for low-income women who are uninsured or underinsured. Cancer Survivorship Program
If you are currently fighting breast cancer, it’s okay – healthy even – to have a plan for the follow-up care you’ll need as a survivor for life. Receiving a cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming, and without the proper guidance and support, navigating treatment and follow-up care can be even more so. The Cancer Survivorship Program at LMH Health Cancer Center aims to help you live well and reduce stress after cancer. The staff will work with you and your primary care doctor to keep your screenings up to date, manage ongoing side effects of treatment, and help you navigate life after cancer treatment.
